110V LED Strip Light and Rope Light for construction sites

The short answer

LED Strip Light and LED Rope Light are two names for the same thing: a continuous run of LEDs in a flexible IP65 sleeve that gives an even line of light with no dark gaps. Ours is 110V for UK construction sites, in 25m and 50m reels giving 780 lumens per metre, or 1,200 lumens per metre on the super bright version, and an emergency battery pack keeps it lit for up to 3 hours in a power cut.

One product, many names

On site you'll hear it called LED Rope Light, LED Strip Light, Strip Lighting, 110V Strip Light, temporary Strip Lighting, site Strip Light or tape light. They all mean the same kit: LEDs mounted every few millimetres inside a flexible, sealed sleeve, on a reel, with a 16A plug on the end.

All three reels run on 110V from a Site Transformer and have a yellow 16A plug. The standard reels (137890 and 138162) link together up to 100m and are wired on arctic grade cable. The super bright reel is wired in parallel, so if one LED fails the rest stay lit, and is rated from -20°C to +45°C.

How much can I run from one supply?

The standard reels link up to 100m. At 5.5W per metre, 100m draws about 550W, roughly 5A at 110V, well inside a 16A outlet. The super bright reel draws 12W per metre, about 600W per 50m reel, so add up what's on each outlet and keep within 16A and the transformer's rating. Our transformer calculator does the sums.

Emergency Strip Light

Plug the 138223 emergency battery pack in line and the Strip Light keeps running for up to 3 hours at reduced brightness when the mains fails. One pack backs up to 100m of Rope Light: two standard 50m reels plugged together, or 100m of the super bright Rope Light, which is wired in parallel. Full details are in emergency 110V Rope Light and Strip Light.

Questions we get asked

Is Rope Light the same as LED Strip Light?

Yes. Rope Light, LED Strip Light and Strip Lighting are names for the same thing: a continuous run of LEDs in a flexible sleeve that gives even light with no dark gaps. Ours is 110V LED Rope Light, IP65, in 25m and 50m reels that link up to 100m.

Is your LED Strip Light 110V or 230V?

Our Rope Light (LED Strip Light) is 110V, for construction sites, on a 16A yellow plug. The 138223 emergency pack works on 100 to 277V AC. For 230V events, use our dual voltage LED Floodlights.

How bright is 110V LED Rope Light?

Our standard 110V LED Rope Light gives 780 lumens per metre from 5.5W per metre (60 LEDs per metre). The super bright version gives 1,200 lumens per metre from 12W per metre (180 LEDs per metre). Both are IP65.

How much Rope Light (Strip Light) can I run from one 110V supply?

Our standard Rope Light, 137890 (50m) and 138162 (25m), links up to 100m. At 5.5W per metre, 100m draws about 550W, roughly 5A at 110V, so one 16A outlet has plenty of headroom. The super bright version (137891) draws 12W per metre, about 600W per 50m reel, so add up the reels on each outlet and keep within 16A and the transformer's rating.

What is temporary Strip Lighting used for?

Temporary Strip Lighting (LED Rope Light) gives an even line of light with no dark gaps, so it's used along stairwells, corridors, data halls, scaffolds, decks and large open floors during construction and fit-out. It hangs up quickly, links reel to reel, and comes down and goes to the next job.

Can Rope Light (Strip Light) work as emergency lighting?

Yes. Add the 138223 emergency battery pack in line and the Rope Light keeps running for up to 3 hours at reduced brightness when the mains fails. One pack backs up to 100m of Rope Light.
