What kit do I need to light and power a building site? Site kit planner
The short answer
Work floor by floor. Light each floor to about 50 lux with 2ft 110V LED Site Fittings or Festoon, light each stairwell continuously with Rope Light (Strip Light) and emergency packs, run a 100m Powerdrop around each floor for tools, and size transformers with 20% headroom. Our planner turns your floor sizes into a kit list you can send straight to us for a quote.

The rules of thumb it uses
General lighting: the lumen method from our lighting calculator, with about 1 in 4 Site Fittings as emergency versions for escape routes.
Stairwells: about 7m of Rope Light (Strip Light) per floor per stairwell, run along the handrail, with an emergency pack on each reel.
Powerdrop: one 100m run per 100m of floor perimeter, with a 16A socket every 5m.
Transformers: sized for the lighting load with 20% headroom. Add your tools on the transformer calculator.
It's a starting point to quote from, not a design. Your emergency lighting plan and the site's electrical design come first. Send us the drawings and we'll check it.
At 50 lux, roughly one 27W 2ft 110V LED Site Fitting for every 25m² of open floor, using typical site factors. A 30m x 20m floor needs about 24.
How much Rope Light do I need for a stairwell?
Allow about 7m per floor, per stairwell, run along the handrail so every step is lit. Fit an emergency pack to each reel so the stairs stay lit if the power fails.
